SAM Way, ex-student at Queen Elizabeth’s School, Crediton, released his EP last week and also held a launch concert featuring his widely acclaimed songs in his home town.

He headed an evening of original and established songs at the Moose Hall on Monday, October 12, and more than 80 people attended.

Now based in London, Sam began writing songs on the piano at the age of 16.

His father, also a musician, taught him some chords on the guitar, which upon moving to London to pursue a career in modelling, quickly became his principal instrument.

His musical influences range from UK-Hip Hop to Breakbeat and from Classical through to Dubstep and his many summers spent at festivals like Womad as a young boy listening to world music and poetry have helped shape his sound.

Now focusing on writing, collaborating and performing Sam has recently collaborated with Matt Henry (The Voice) and worked with William Baker (creative director behind Kylie Minouge/Outcast/Rihanna) on his music video to “Golden Soldier.”

Other artists appearing will him at the Moose Hall included Anna Pancaldi, Dave Treadaway and Nanette McClelland.

Sam told the “Courier” after his concert: “It was the perfect start to the tour ahead, a fantastic night and a great turnout for a Monday night.

“It was a sensational evening.

“David Treadaway took the stage and soothed the 80 strong crowd - there was barely space to sit! - and Nanette Mclelland spread her musical message of love and healing with a six-piece strong band.

“It was so touching to see so many people who I have known since I was half the size I am now, there in support.

“I figure that if you can’t get the support of your home town then what hope have you got!

“When I stepped up to take the mic, there were no nerves, there was just this familial sense of coming home.

“It was a joy to share the songs from the upcoming EP entitled ’Architect’ - which were listened to in complete silence.

“We seriously couldn’t have asked for a better audience - and it was so great to introduce my dear friend, collaborator, and the soaring talent that is Anna Pancalidi to my friends, family and local crowd. “Anna and myself are on tour together for the rest of the month, and she played so beautifully, her voice quite literally stunned the crowd, and I feel privileged to be on the road with her.”
