THE Crediton Heart Project has won the support of three local celebrities – international theatre and film producer Julian Stoneman and the talented twin brothers, Harry and Luke Treadaway, well-known stars of screen and stage.
All three were born locally and educated in Crediton.
Set up last year by volunteers, the Crediton Heart Project is working to keep the heart in Crediton as the town expands.
It aims to do this by promoting and supporting our vibrant arts scene, community groups and local enterprise.
As part of its plans, the Heart Team is exploring the idea of building a new multi-use community venue to provide space for performances, exhibitions and activities for all ages.
“Building a community space is an exciting opportunity to offer the next generation a chance to experience arts and culture and get inspired. We’d love to see a destination venue for Crediton,” said Harry Treadaway.
The Treadaway twins attended Crediton’s Queen Elizabeth’s School and began their acting careers in school productions. After QE, both joined the National Youth Theatre and have since carved out successful acting careers - from award-winning theatre runs to Hollywood films.
In 2013 Luke Treadaway won an Olivier Award for Best Leading Actor for his performance as Christopher in the National Theatre’s production of “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”.
Harry’s starring roles have included Victor Frankenstein in the TV series “Penny Dreadful” and Brady Hartsfield in “Mr Mercedes”.
Julian Stoneman, who has also backed the Heart Project, commented: “Crediton has had a huge amount of talent go through the town, be it actors, musicians, technicians and producers - Crediton needs to get behind these people. I would be happy to help and support this worthwhile cause.”
Julian, also a student at QE, started his stage career with CODS and has gone on to become a successful producer of shows and live events across the world.
He is also a Trustee of Historic Royal Palaces, Patron of the Brighton Institute of Contemporary Theatre Training and a sponsor of the Invictus Games Foundation for the Duke of Sussex.
The Crediton Heart Project needs the help of the local community. By filling in this short online survey: www.creditonheartproposals.commonplace.is and saying what you like about the area - and what could be improved - you’ll be doing your bit to support the project!
If you prefer paper, pick up a Crediton Heart leaflet and questionnaire in venues, shops, pubs and schools in and around the town.
Drop off your completed questionnaire in one of the collection boxes at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre, Crediton Library, Tesco or Morrisons.
