I AM writing to express my concern about the water in our local rivers: the Walkham and Tavy. There are widespread recent reports of people including children falling sick after entering the water at Horrabridge, Tavistock and Double Waters.
This is of particular concern during the hot weather and in the run-up to school holidays.
The Environment Agency and South West Water need to take robust action and in particular, South West Water should stop paying enormous bonuses to their past / present CEOs and dividends to shareholders. Chief officers should be held accountable and be dealt with by the legal system, if appropriate facing prison terms - this may motivate them to fulfil their proper obligations.
