SINCE the Crediton Courier published a letter in March last year on the subject of devolution and local government re-organisation (LGR) and has subsequently printed frequent, informative articles on this major subject, including comments and explanations, particularly from Councillors Brazil, Steve Keable and Jim Cairney and, in last week’s publication, South Devon MP Carolina Voaden, I have no doubt that the Councillors listed above and MP Voaden are right.

Exeter City Council wants to include six local locations in the form of a Greater Exeter unitary authority, which would include Crediton Town, Crediton Hamlets amongst others.

In my opinion, no thanks.

Exeter City Council should stand alone, as does Plymouth. A university city is not compatible with rural towns and villages.

In fact, to suggest merging us with Exeter City Council is the exact opposite to devolution. Hands off our independence.

I am disappointed that our MP for Central Devon, Mel Stride, has not, as far as I am aware, made his views known on LGR in the Crediton Courier.

I just hope he will stand up for local democracy and not a takeover by Exeter City Council.
