I WAS amazed to read a recent piece in the "Courier" (January 21) which claimed that there had been great progress with filling potholes on Devon’s roads.

It seems, on pothole terms, Zeal Monachorum is the "bridesmaid, but never the bride".

For the last four years, the period mentioned in your piece, the roads in our village have got steadily worse.

Both of the main approach roads have numerous large potholes and, within the village envelope, the road to the Waie Inn has more holes than road surface. I have attached some pictures to show how bad this particular area is.

I understand that numerous approaches have been made by our Parish Council but, to-date, no action has been taken.

A few years ago, a visit was made by Devon County Council Highways workers and markings were made indicating where treatment was needed. These marks have long since faded away but no treatment has been carried out.

This begs the question – for what do we pay our council tax?

I am ever hopeful that someone from Highways will come and look at the state of our roads and take some action.
