NEWTON St Cyres Golf Course hosted the annual laser clay pigeon shoot by members of Crediton Boniface Rotary Club.

The event was arranged by Rotarian David Taylor and 14 teams of five people shot.

Three trophies were played for, best clay pigeon shooting team, best golf chipping team and a trophy for the team with the best overall performance.

The laser clay pigeon shooting trophy was won by a team led by Rotarian Paul Radnor, called The Misfits.

The golf chipping trophy was won by a team from the New Inn, Coleford. The best overall performance trophy was won by the Misfits team.

The weather stayed fair for the whole event, which was attended by more than 85 people. All the money raised went to the Devon Air Ambulance Trust, a charity chosen by Mark Westaway from Newton St Cyres Golf Course.

The total amount raised was £630.

Afterwards, there was also an impromptu "nearest the pin' golf competition, organised by Gareth Evans and Phoebe Westwood. It won by John Horseman, who also donated his £45 winnings to the same charity.

The Crediton Boniface Rotary Cub would like to extend their thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make the night a great success.

The brave volunteers included Anne Westaway, Chris Salter and Jenni Pitts, who cooked and served the barbecue food and Debby Westaway together with Will Ashmore, who served the refreshments. Mark Westaway and all the green keepers from Newton St. Cyres Golf Course who prepared and set up all the equipment for the night were also thanked.
