TEN groups of Cub Scouts descended on North Tawton during the weekend of June 23 and 24 for their Annual Cub camp.

District Commissioner Heather Johns explained: “The theme was Harry Potter this year and the Scouts excelled in re-enacting the theme exceptionally well.

“All the groups dressed in cloaks for the event and a number of leaders got into character too with Professor Dumbledore, Hagrid, Lord Voldemore and two versions of Professor Umbridge all there to enjoy a fun weekend with the Cubs.

“Activities available included wand making, Butter beer, making owl boxes and the most popular event by far the inter pack Quidditch!

“All the groups successfully mastered the game which was finally won by Lapford in a closely fought contest with South Zeal.

“Devon Explorer Scouts were on-hand to man Honeydukes confectionary store where each Cub got to exchange sickles for sweets! This was paid for by the district team and the money raised will go towards funding the small group of Mid Devon Scouts attending the World Jamboree in North America next year.

“We were blessed with exceptional weather for camping and the event culminated in a water fight and award presentation.”
