AIDAN Bostock, a member of Tedburn St Mary Judo Club, won bronze in his first International Judo competition, which was held at Lommel, Belgium.

Aidan (13), made a spectacular start, winning his first contest by throwing his opponent for Ippon (full score).

Fighting in the Under 15's age group at Under 60kg, he lost his second fight to the eventual silver medallist but came back strong in the third to win again by Ippon giving him the chance to fight for bronze.

He fought hard, winning in extra time, surprising his opponent with a left-handed throw.

Aidan was one of only five British medallists in what was by far the biggest event he has attended since being selected by British Judo for the England Squad.

The competition was run over two days and attracted competitors from all over Europe, and was also a selection event for the Belgium team.
