A CREDITON woman with an impressive four children, 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren will celebrate her 100th birthday on Monday, June 10.
Joan Williams, nee Lashbrook, who was born in Kensington, London, is guaranteed to receive lots of birthday cards with so many family members.
During part of the Second World War, Joan made parachutes at Wippell’s in Exeter.
Joan wore white when she married William Edward Williams in 1941 in Crediton Parish Church.
They moved to North Wales where they had a daughter and son, Anthea and Arthur.
The family moved to Crediton and Phillip and Beryl were born.
Joan worked at Kneel’s dry cleaners in Cowley Road, Exeter for seven years, for a time for Ernest Jackson and Co in Crediton and Babychick in Crediton for more than 10 years.
She was widowed 50 years ago and has lived in her current home for 37 years.
Joan said she gave up driving when she was 89 but said it was something she really enjoyed.
Joan is expecting a number of well-wishers to call at her home during the day of her birthday and said that visitors will be welcomed to call and have a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
