CREDITON Flower Club’s Open Evening, held at Sandford Parish Hall on September 10, was a great success.

Edward Moorman from Trugs the Florist (Exeter) was the demonstrator and his chosen theme was “At Summer’s End”. Edward used to be a chartered surveyor but decided to make a career change to enter into the world of floristry and he is now running a very successful business.

Whilst each arrangement was very different it typified Autumn in all its guises ranging from a simple tropical design using the lovely umbrella fern, red anthuriums and lime green chrysanthemums to a spectacular hand-held bouquet with an abundance of flowers including orange roses, pink neurones, pink gladioli (fairytale), viburnum berry and green oak foliage. Stunning!

Edward then created a large “door” ring made from natural twigs which was “dressed” with viburnum, oak leaves, rosehip (pumpkin) and Chinese lanterns. Orange raffia bows were added as a final touch.

The countryside was represented with a tall structure of sprayed gold twigs which was decorated with calla lilies, lizianthus and coral fern. Tiny butterflies were added to complete the picture - most effective.

For the finale a large glass cylindrical vase had been chosen in which Edward arranged the strong colours of orange and reds with gerberas, rosehips, “chocolate” roses and copper hazel - a real Autumn delight!

Although we are at Summer’s end Edward demonstrated that Autumn has something very special to offer - a super evening.

Mary Tasker gave the vote of thanks.

The next meeting of Crediton Flower Club will be held on Thursday, October 10 at the Boniface Centre, and will be the AGM. New members and visitors are welcome.
