A COMMEMORATIVE Service for the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth for the people of Crediton and Crediton Hamlets took place at Holy Cross, Crediton on Sunday, September 18 at 6pm.

The service was led by the Rector, Rev Matthew Tregenza, on the eve of the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.

Crediton Town Band and Crediton Parish Church Choir and the organist provided musical accompaniment.

Readings were given by The Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Liz Brookes-Hocking and Brian Boxall-Hunt, Commander Royal Navy (Retired) OBE.

The Rector, Rev Matthew Tregenza, gave the address, during which he praised the late Queen for her dedicated service and steadfast sense of duty.

He also spoke of her kindness, her faith, social responsibility and formidable work ethic.

After the Commendation the congregation sang the hymn written to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The service concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.

Everyone was offered a tea-light to take home with them for use either during the 8pm Act of Silence or during the funeral service the following day.

Some of those who attended took the opportunity to sign the Book of Condolence.

People are invited to use the church as a place of prayer for the late HM Queen Elizabeth and to pray for the reign of HM King Charles.

For those who don’t wish to attend in person, an electronic book of condolence can be signed by visiting: royal.gov.uk .

For those who wish to lay flowers in remembrance of the Queen, a dedicated area has been set up in the churchyard at the west end of Crediton Parish Church where the Platinum Jubilee sapling was planted. There is a polite request that plastic is removed prior to laying any floral tribute.
