I AM a volunteer litter picker and I’ve been astonished at the amount of litter I’ve found in the Barnstaple Cross area of Crediton.

I work with Mid Devon District Council’s (MDDC) Street Scene and collect litter wherever and whenever I can. I then put it all together at a collection point (as shown in the photograph) and MDDC send their waste management team out to collect it.

I have been focusing on the Barnstaple Cross area while part of the A377 has been closed and I’ve picked up a number of items including plastic bottles, cans, car tyres, a car bumper and plastic containers.

I’ve also picked up a large number of animal bones and skulls in the wooded area at Barnstaple Cross.

I feel strongly about keeping our beautiful countryside clean and tidy and that is my motivation for doing it!

Being out in the fresh air and close to nature, is wonderful for good health.
