It is a charity that seeks to support the work of the local secondary schools where it runs extra-curricular activities, including the ever-popular drop-in lunch clubs.
It helps provide lesson support within several different subjects but particularly in Religious Studies.
Apart from working in Queen Elizabeth’s and other schools, Connect also takes young people to events such as Spree Camp which took place in Shobrooke Park from Friday, June 24 to Sunday, June 26 this year, which welcomed 1,200 young people from across the South West.
In order to do this, Connect works in conjunction with South West Youth Ministries (SWYM) which provides trainee youth workers and Connect provides a placement, accommodation and help towards living costs.
Connect does this to invest in the lives of the young people and young adults that it works with, but also seeking to support those who wish to go into church leadership, youth work or mission.
Queen Elizabeth’s and the other secondary schools that Connect works with really appreciate the work that the charity does within the school.
The schools are always looking for Connect to do to more in their schools.
Connect workers get involved with the life of the school, having helped with things such as Covid testing and Christmas dinners, to mention just a few.
As such Connect is always looking for more Christian volunteers who have a passion for working with young people.
If you belong to a local church or organisation which would be interested in hearing more about the charity’s work, please also ask as one of the workers or support group members would be more than happy to visit to tell you more.
In order to help support those who work on behalf of Connect, some people recently undertook a 10-mile sponsored walk around Crediton starting and ending at Crediton Congregational Church.
If you would be interested in supporting Connect in a non-school based role, then please get in touch with Wendy Anez, chair of the Crediton Support Group for Connect by emailing: [email protected] .
