CUSTOMERS are finding any way they can to make it to Toastie Day on Fridays at Kennerleigh Community Shop!
Even before the cost of fuel sky rocketed, local endurance jockey Jules Johansson rode Sam along the country lanes all the way from West Sandford, to have his brunch.
Fuelled with a brie, bacon and homemade tomato chilli jam toastie, accompanied by a delicious coffee, and a carrot for Sam, they trotted home happily and fully restored.
Kennerleigh Shop has started offering the most delicious home made toasties every Friday.
Open from 9.30am until 2pm, they prove the perfect energy boost for brunch after an early swim; a delicious lunch after a lovely walk around the footpaths; or an energy booster after a cycle ride through the stunning Devon scenery. Or simply a treat for a Friday.
On their way to a latte art course, manager Sonnie and volunteer Shelley started the initiative after seeing the queues outside a toastie café in Bristol.
A bargain at £6.95, they are all made from scratch by Shelley (who in a previous life was a professional cook) with Crediton bakery Olivers wholemeal bread and accompanied by a fresh salad and some Devon made Burts crisps, they are going like… hot toasties!
If you don’t have time to stop, have a take away - the speedy machine makes a piping hot, crisp toastie, oozing with locally made Taw Valley cheddar, in a couple of minutes.
They are a great addition to the beautiful village shop which already serves some of the best coffee in the area along with a fresh homemade cake every day.
Under the direction of Sonnie, and having just celebrated the first anniversary of the newly refurbished shop, it is going from strength to strength.
Warm and welcoming it has become a popular hub for locals and passers by alike.
