NEW singing workshops, starting on Sunday, November 11 are to be held on every second Sunday of the month thereafter, promise to lift the heart in song with a spirit of peace, joy and freedom.
Called "Heartsong", the workshops are being led by experienced Devon-based choir leader, singer and composer, Alison Whittall.
She promises "deeply nourishing, harmonious singing workshops".
Alison, who is a member of the Natural Voice Practitioners Network ( www.naturalvoice.net ) added: "These workshops are full of heartfelt, vibrant acappella songs of Peace, Joy and Freedom."
She teaches harmonies by ear which requires no previous experience with songs which are easy to learn, broken down into bite size chunks.
The first workshop will be held from 7.30pm to 9pm in Crediton Congregational Church.
Alison added: "Everyone is welcome, from any background. The atmosphere is reflective and inspiring.
We sing a wide variety of songs. For example, uplifting Gospel, energising African rhythms, prayerful Taize chants, Harmonic Temple, soulful contemporary song - all within an atmosphere of respect for diversity and celebration of Life, love and unity.”
“This is also an opportunity to bathe in candlelight and enjoy a vibration of peace and harmony, especially as we mark this 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War.
“Singing creates a sense of well-being, brings communities together and gives us the opportunity to create sounds of power and beauty."
Singing produces "relaxation, lower blood pressure and a slower heart rate." (November 2011) study by the Sydney de Haan Research Centre for Arts and Health in conjunction with the Natural Voice Practitioners Network
