LIONS throughout the world began a new year on July 1, when new officers took office and members started to get ready for a new year.

Crediton Lions held a meeting following Covid guidelines in the open air at the home of outgoing President Peter Bryan.

In reviewing the past year, which he said had proved somewhat difficult because of the Covid restrictions, Peter said that we are entering post lockdown in good heart.

He said planning had begun for the future and a small committee has been working on diverse things, from the club’s Charity Golf Day and planning the ROAR programme in primary schools.

He said he was very pleased that Landscore Primary School has taken up the challenge.

He added that the Cow Pat Drop draw tickets are already going well, explaining that with a first prize of £100 they are quite popular.

Peter went on to say that he believes the Crediton Club is now stronger than in the past and that membership has grown.

He explained: “I believe we have demonstrated that we can contribute even more to Lions objectives.

“I am immensely proud of the service we have given to the Covid Vaccination Centre, now at over 932 hours, not counting the inside volunteering of Lions Hazel and Alison.

“The Talking News has throughout the pandemic, not lost a single week and by sending flowers to listeners and to Age Concern, we have gained much respect.”

Lion Peter then handed over the reins to the safe keeping of Lion President Hazel Evely and wished Hazel every success during her term.

Lion Hazel has been a member of Crediton Club for many years and is well-known throughout the district.

Hazel said: “It is good to be at the helm of a thriving Club and I hope to have many opportunities to serve and to strengthen the Service we give to the town and wherever and whenever need arises.”

She went on to say that she hopes that the Lions Club International Foundation Garden Party on August 22 will get her off to a good start.

Hazel passed on her Vice President’s ribbon to Lion Ann Whitehouse.
