THE Friends of Hayward’s School have set their children and families a challenge to raise money.
The Friends have asked families to complete enough miles in the month of May to travel from Lands End to John O’Groats.
This can be completed in any way they like; walking, running, cycling or even swimming, the list is endless. Families and pupils can choose to do as many or as few miles as they like.
All miles completed will be added together to see how far they get each day. Progress can be monitored on the Friends of Hayward’s School Facebook page with daily updates.
As well as this being a fun activity to complete throughout May, the Friends are raising funds, not only for themselves but also for Crediton Foodbank.
All proceeds will be shared equally. Children can be sponsored by friends and family or people can donate via the Facebook page.
Emma Heard, Chair of Friends of Hayward’s School, said: "We have had a great response from families and are well on our way.
"Progress has been so great during the first few days of the challenge that we may be able to travel much further than John O’Groats! Who knows where we will end up!"
Andy Smith, Head Teacher, said: “I’m really excited to find out where we might end up at the end of this adventure.
"We are lucky to have a brilliant PTA and a very supportive parental community who come together to support the school and to raise funds for organisations like the foodbank, who supported many families in Crediton throughout the recent pandemic.
"As well as being a fun challenge, it is brilliant to see so many children (from right across the school) getting out and about and enjoying the local environment so much which is so important for their mental health and well-being. Well done and thank you to everybody involved.”
