CHILDREN from Miss Down’s Year Six class from Hayward’s School marked Remembrance Day on November 11 by laying flowers on the Commonwealth War Graves in the Holy Cross Churchyard, as well as on those of other service personnel.

A wreath was also placed on the War Memorial on behalf of the school, although the children were not able to attend in person, as they normally do, due to Covid restrictions.

In preparation for Remembrance Day, children had read letters from the frontline of World War One, read poetry and looked at pictures of Hayward’s Boys’ School from 1910.

Miss Down said: “It was a moving experience for us all to consider that some of the young men who lie buried in the graveyard were probably captured in that picture.”
