WHILE older members of the family enjoy a drink or two, children can now climb the wall, conquer the rope walk or go over the jungle walk.

All this is at the Mare and Foal, Yeoford, where landlord Trevor Sawtell wanted to make good use of the large gardens which also boasts a boules pitch.

Other pieces in the children's adventure area include swings, a straight slide and a tubular slide, swing boat and two towers, all with a soft landing surface and all built with well-finished wood.

The adventure area can only be used by children between the wages of 3-11 years during pub opening hours only and only with adult supervision at all times.

Trevor said: "This is a family pub that has gone one step further. Since we moved here last summer we wanted to give people the best family experience we could and to that end, the play area is already proving a great success. Mum and dads can enjoy their time at the pub knowing the children will be happy playing on all the equipment.

"We hope it will encourage more families to come here and enjoy themselves and provide them with the facilities that young families want these days."

Three sets of Morris dancers have visited the pub this month - Great Western and Glory of the West who invited Cogs and Wheels as guests and in July another group will be dancing there.

The Mare and Foal serves food every day except Monday. It is closed Monday lunchtimes. Traditional Sunday lunches are served, together with the full menu available and Trevor and his partner, Jane, are planning some great family barbecues.

Local suppliers and local produce is used as much as possible. The Mare and Foal also sells newspapers, including the Crediton Country Courier, milk and eggs.
