THERE were some chuckles from members of the congregation each time there was a reference to rain during the annual Harvest celebration service held at the Church of St Matthew, Coldridge, as every person there had to battle through pouring rain and some, flooded roads, to attend.
Despite the terrible weather during the afternoon of Saturday, September 22, the service was very well-attended.
It was conducted by the Rev Lindsey Starrs of the North Creedy Benefice.
The service also included prayers and Bible readings, a harvest-themed sermon by Rev Starrs, as well as the reading of the poem "Harvest Wrappings" by Beryl Chatfield.
Donations of harvest, garden produce and food items were accepted for the Amber Foundation at Chawleigh. The Amber Foundation offers young people a fresh start in life.
After the service, a bring-and-share tea was enjoyed by those who attended.
