JOHN Chappell, a member of the Yeo Valley Fellowship in Lapford, took the Harvest Service at the recent Lapford Over 60s meeting.

He first gave a reading from Matthew 7, and then gave a fascinating and informative talk on his Beekeeping, even showing honeycombs and other equipment, including brood chambers, and said bees are friendly creatures, who will not attack unless provoked, adding there is only one queen bee to every hive, with worker and drone bees.

He took along a pot of his own honey, and gave everyone a spoonful to taste. Everyone agreed it was delicious.

His final words were that the older you get the more you appreciate Mother Nature.

Two hymns were sung accompanied by Chairman Ron Ketcher on the organ. Mr Ketcher said their next outing is on November 14 for a festive warm up to Newton Abbot market and Trago Mills, visitors welcome.
