FOR the first time in its history, Cheriton Fitzpaine Carnival will have a King this year rather than a Queen.
The sashing of the King, Harry Tonkin (7), was performed by Alan Quick, Editorial Manager of the “Crediton Courier”.
The winner is selected every two years by applicants selling 20p raffle tickets.
Harry, supported by his family and friends, sold £1,084 worth of tickets. His attendants will be Izzy Taylor-Shorland (7), Lilly Cavill (7) and Lottie Mannion (11).
Izzy sold tickets worth £808, Lily sold £600 worth and Lottie £200.
The grand total raised for the Carnival was £2,692.
Carnival Chairman Andrew Dean thanked all those who took part and bought tickets before the draw for the winners took place.
He reminded everyone that the Carnival, which is held every two years, and has been run since 1976, will take place on Saturday, July 21, with the procession starting from the village school at 7pm.
There will be many colourful floats and walking entries and a fire engine from Crediton will also take part.
The roads will be closed to traffic from 6pm until midnight, to allow the carnival to pass and for the outside party to happen safely.
Live music will be provided before and after the procession by AmberFire Ceilidh band, followed by a disco later. Plenty of food stalls will be available, as well as at the two village pubs.
