CHOOSING a very energetic way to mark his 54th birthday is Dr Jason Clunie of Cheriton Bishop who has so far raised more than £2,430 for Acorn Community Support.

Dr Clunie will be cycling up and down the one mile long Bridford Hill 27 times, tomorrow, Saturday, August 3. That is 54 times in all, making 54 miles.

For those who do not know the hill, it has a gradient of nine per cent up to 19 per cent making a 4,200 metres vertical climb, Mount Everest is 8,800 metres, meaning this a Half Everest Challenge.

Anyone who might wish to join Dr Clunie is most welcome and he says if you see him on the hill to please encourage him “vigorously”.

Acorn Community Support is a small registered charity founded in 1989 which works closely with the Cheriton Bishop and Teign Valley GP team who work from Cheriton and Christow.

It has an office in Christow surgery, employs two part-time staff and works with a team of dedicated volunteers to provide a range of services that complement and expand those provided by the Practice.

It also helps people in the area who use other GP surgeries. Funding is provided by Devon County Council Adult and Community Services and through donations and legacies received mainly from the local community.

Acorn’s charitable purpose is the advancement of health and well-being with the elderly, frail and disabled people in the area who, with extra help, can still live in their own homes. It also organises outings and regular lunches and get togethers.

Dr Clunie guessed the whole up and down would take around nine hours. He can be supported through the Acorn website page: www.acprmcommunitysupport.co.uk or at: https://www.wonderful.org/fundraiser/drclunieshalfeverestchallenge-9c7fe58c .
