THE Community Market held on Crediton's Town Square on July 12, once again saw an attractive selection of stalls. These included vegetables, fresh fruit and homemade cordials, pickles and jams, juice, jewellery, sewing and crochet crafts, handmade cards and hand crafted wooden bread boards. Dee Ross, from the organising group, Sustainable Crediton, said: "There is always something interesting to find at the Community Market with local, seasonal fresh food and wonderful handmade crafts alongside local groups and charities advertising their services or fundraising". Two stalls represented local church groups, Crediton Methodist Church and St Swithun's, Sandford, who are raising money using their "talents". Each person is given £10 and they can use this to make more money by purchasing the materials to make and sell items they have made. At the market they took along lovely hand-made knitting, sewing crafts and marmalade. Local charitable stalls included the Devon Wildlife Trust and Unite Carers in Mid Devon who took a stand to advertise their support services for children and adults providing care for friends or relatives and they were raising funds by raffling a lovely teddy bear. Contact 01884 257511 for information about the charity. Local school student Kirsty Tapp took cakes, drinks and fruit to raise funds towards her travel costs to go and work in a school in Namibia. Sustainable Crediton, who sponsor the markets, had a display about the new proposed local Community Energy Company and had free giveaways of TV power-downs and shower water savers. For more information about the Community Energy Company visit the Sustainable Crediton website: http://www.sustainablecrediton.org.uk">www.sustainablecrediton.org.uk . Sustainable Crediton's Woodland and Hedgerow Group took along quirky wooden figures to sell to raise funds for the group, which works with local landowners to trim hedgerows and woodland to produce wood fuel and undertake woodland management. Anyone living in Crediton or the surrounding area who grows food in their garden or small holding, or who cooks local food or has craftwork they have made. The cost is by donation. Local groups or musicians are welcome to showcase what they do at the market. Stallholders will need to provide their own wet weather protection.
