AN "outstanding" Ofsted report has been given to Cheriton Bishop Playgroup at its weekly day-long sessions at the village school.

Last year it received the same praise for its three days a week sessions at Cheriton Bishop Village Hall.

This summer the Ofsted inspector, David McMahon, noted that all children at the Playgroup make excellent progress in both their learning and their personal development.

He said the learning environment was "excellent" and that the children thrive. Each child's individual needs and interests are valued and met, and are linked with the high quality of the partnership with parents.

Mr McMahon said staff were focussed on making sure the children all thrived in a safe and secure environment and there was good commitment to continuous improvement.

Leadership was "excellent" with a clear vision in planning for the future, which had a positive effect on children's progress.

Transition for children into the reception class at the village school was "very smooth" with "first rate" records of children's progress being shared with the school and parents.

Mr McMahon said children "love attending Cheriton Bishop Playgroup" with their enthusiasm being supported by "an inspirational education programme" with a "wide range of fascinating activities".

He said the children enjoyed meeting with older brothers and sisters at the school, sharing their news and playing on the "well designed climbing equipment" or run energetically on the hard and soft surface play areas.

Of the 14 points covered in the report, Cheriton Bishop Playgroup received "outstanding" for all but two, which were marked "good" which means provision is strong.
