ON Good Friday, some of the members of Cheriton Fitzpaine Methodist Church joined friends from the Exeter, Coast and Country Circuit to walk from Killerton to Silverton where they enjoyed a shared tea before taking part in an evening service, led by Wonford Methodist Church.

In glorious weather the walk was led by David Rolle who is a Silverton Church Member, who also works for the Devon Wildlife Trust. He took us first to the area of Parkland where there was once a hill fort and, in the 19th Century, a Fallow Deer Park.

Traces could be seen of the Deer Park Pales and stone faced banks which once supported wooden paling fences. In a massive Conservation Programme, National Trust staff, volunteers and contractors have cleared shrub, thinned trees and removed fences to reintroduce grazing, which is fundamental to the existence of wood pasture.

Adults, children and dogs all enjoyed the walk and some of the smaller dogs were able to sit quietly in the pews during the service, well-watered and walked.
