THE Music Makers’ next evening event, the 21st in the on-going series, is a solo performance by locally-based percussionist Kordian Tetkov.

Using an array of metal gongs, the performance tomorrow, Friday, March 15, will suffuse the substantial interior spaces of Crediton Congregational Church with a rich sonic experience.

Doors open at 6.30pm for refreshments, with the performance starting at 7pm.

Eran’s Kitchen (The Baobab Café) provides hot vegetarian food after the single set, which will last around 45 minutes. As on recent occasions, admission is on a “pay-what-you-decide” basis, with a guide of £7 to cover expenses.

Originally from the south of Germany, Tetkov holds a degree in music performance from Dartington College of Music.

He has worked with a number of ensembles as drummer and percussionist. Since 2016 he has been part of Capri-Batterie, a performing trio described as being “steeped in the deep waters of outer-limits jazz.”

The acoustic impact of gongs (classified technically as “idiophones”) may range from soothing, gently evocative and atmospheric to powerful and even challenging.

Tetkov employs instruments crafted in long-established workshops in Germany, Italy or Asia, where the hand-techniques of their manufacture produce the gongs’ distinctive qualities of sound, timbre and tone.

A memorable experience is assured. All are, as ever, welcome.
