THE series based on an article by Philip North, Bishop of Burnley entitled: "Living the Empty Tomb", continued on Sunday, July 19, when Kirsten Lees, a Local Preacher from Exeter, led the service with the theme: "A Vision of Creation".
The Family Challenge was to make a picture of a garden with things that normally grow in a garden and things that we do not normally see alongside flowers. Two families took part and one showed flowers and weeds and the other flowers and vegetables – both with the tagline, "Let both grow together".
Kirsten produced a quiz showing different plants which we had to name and say whether they were edible.
A dramatised version of a reading from Matthew’s Gospel where Jesus told the parable of the weeds. When weeds grew among the corn, the farmer told his workers to leave the weeds until harvest so as not to damage the corn if they pulled up the weeds. Kirsten said if we make judgements too soon, we risk damaging good things.
Kirsten talked about floods which obviously damage property. However, they do make fertile ground. If we were more in tune with nature we would not build on flood plains. Humanity is part of creation and we should have a closer relationship with it.
We sang "I am a new Creation, Here in the Grace of God I stand" and "How great Thou art, Thy power throughout the universe displayed".
