THE Friends of Crediton Library was delighted to host an evening with Robin Ravilious, who, alongside her husband, the photographer James Ravilious, created one of the most detailed photographic documentaries ever made of English rural life.
The evening was held at Crediton Library on Monday, November 28.
Thanks to James’ 17 year project for the Beaford Photographic Archive there is now an intimate and enduring record of a way of life in Devon that was rapidly disappearing.
The ticketed event was a sell out and helped raised more than £300 for the Friends, who have plans to help equip the Library with blinds, a screen and a projector.
On sale at the event were books and cards showcasing the work of James Ravilious and, as well, the work of one of the main organisers of the evening, FoCL member and photographer, Paul McCloughlin.
The evening also contained a tribute to local photographer Garth Vaughan, who sadly died last month.
The next event organised by FoCL will be “An Evening of Christmas Ghost Stories” on December 19, while the Annual General meeting has been arranged for 7pm on Monday, February 27.
A competition to guess the number of sweets in the jar is currently being run at the library.
