Former Crediton Locality Manager received MBE from Prince William
FORMERLY Locality Manager at Crediton in the late 1990’s, Stephen Hudson received his MBE from Prince William at Buckingham Palace this month.
"It was a great day at the Palace. Prince William was really interested in my work and the NHS in Devon," Steve said.
Steve was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. For five of his 34 years working in community NHS services in Devon, he was at Crediton Hospital.
His citation was as Divisional Director, Community Services, Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust for services to vulnerable people in Devon.
While Steve was at Crediton Hospital there was the link set up with Mengo Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, instigated by Gerald Conyngham of Crediton who had been on a course with the administrator of Mengo.
Officially twinning Exeter and District Health Trust, which then ran Crediton Hospital, with Mengo Hospital was a totally new idea.
Steve has devoted much of his free time and working life to helping and supporting elderly and vulnerable groups in Devon, both as a Registered Nurse for people with learning disabilities and as a general manager of community health and social care services.
Now he is retired, Steve plans to continue his voluntary work in the community and is a Trustee of the award wining Beacon Community Centre in Whipton. He lives in Exeter with his wife and family.
