FIRE crews from Hatherleigh, Chagford and Crediton along with the aerial ladder platform and water foam carrier from Danes Castle, Exeter attended a report of a forklift truck on fire at the commercial premises operated by Gregory Distribution at North Park, Fore Street, North Tawton at about 9pm on Monday, May 31.

As the building was heavily smoke logged, a further appliance from Okehampton was mobilised to take along a second positive pressure ventilation fan to the incident. 

The Fire Service said that the forklift was destroyed by fire whilst the single storey warehouse and its contents were damaged by smoke.  

One hose reel jet, one main jet, two dry powder extinguishers, two thermal image cameras, four sets of breathing apparatus, two positive pressure ventilation fans, a gas monitor and small tools were used to extinguish the fire and ensure the scene was safe.
