AT the January meeting of Shobrooke Friendly Club, members were due to have a talk on recycling by Felicity Jones of Mid Devon District Council.

Unfortunately she was unwell and Norman Gale came to the rescue with a talk on coins, mainly on the history of the penny and how it has changed over the past 1,300 years.

Margaret Gale set an interesting taste test with seven varieties of crisps, followed by a cryptic quiz on tv game shows.

This was followed by our usual tea and biscuits served by Dave and Clifford. We had our monthly draw and everyone went away happy and cheerful. In the end a great afternoon was had by all.

On February 2 the Club has arranged a visit to the pantomime at Tiverton to see “Dick Whittington”, which is sure to be much enjoyed.

The next meeting of the Club will be on February 15 at Shobrooke Village Hall, when there will be a talk by Wiltshire Farm Foods, which hopefully will include some tasting.
