THE Folklore Library and Archive, which is based in Crediton Library, will soon be hosting a new art exhibition which has just finished a successful show at Bristol City Hall.

The exhibition, titled Folklore, is by Bristol-based artist Katie Marland.

Folklore is an ongoing body of work chronicling the mythology and legends found deep in our history.

Folk traditions and creatures are brought to life in stark monochrome on canvas and paper, as artist Katie uses her background in natural history illustration to inform the creation of something uncanny, twisting the ordinary into the preternatural.

Katie is a fine artist and illustrator. She studied at Bristol School of Art, Camberwell, and The Royal Drawing School, where she recently completed her masters.

Her work is research-led, characterised by close observational drawing, obsessive detail, and dark themes.

She can be found most days haunting the halls of local museums.

The Folklore Library and Archive is a donation-funded organisation, based in Crediton Library.

It holds a number of collections of national and international significance. It is dedicated to preserving traditions, heritage and customs for the future.

The exhibition can be viewed in Crediton Library from Monday, October 10 until Christmas, during normal library opening hours.

On Saturday, October 8 at 7.30pm there will be a private viewing and discussion with the artist in the library in advance of the public display.

This viewing is free and open to anybody, but is via ticketed entry only.

If you would like to go to the viewing and meet the artist, please email: [email protected] and request tickets, or telephone Crediton Library on 01363 772578.
