A STEADY flow of visitors to Spreyton Parish Church during a recent weekend was testament to the success and beauty of the displays in the flower festival on the theme of “Streams of Living Water”.

Someone said it was a peaceful and calming flower festival, care had been taken to create arrangements that suited the setting and the time through which we are living.

There was the Garden of Eden with a water feature, Noah’s Ark atop the ancient Saxon font, a Christening robe beside the medieval font now used and then the window in memory of John Anderton, put in not many years ago.

The long, lacy Christening robe lent by a local family roused curiosity being so small. Folk wondered whether babies were smaller back in Victorian times or whether they were christened much earlier than now because of the mortality rate.

Rather nice, too, was that there was a christening on the Sunday when all the flowers were still in place although the festival had officially ended.

The cake stall was very well supported and excess flowers were sold.

The next event for the church is the Harvest Festival on Sunday, September 26 from 6pm in the church with supper to follow.

Every first Saturday in the month is the Big Breakfast in the village hall in aid of the hall.
