CREDITON Library held its first Fun Palace, a weekend of free drop-in activities on Friday, October 5 and Saturday, 6 as part of a nationwide campaign.

Fun Palaces promote community at the heart of culture and culture at the heart of community, through an annual weekend of action created by, for and with local people.

Library users were able to try out a smoothie bike during both days.

The stationary bike with attached blender was kindly donated by Devon Norse and the fruit by Crediton’s Tesco store at Wellparks, Crediton Co-op, Four Seasons and The Green House.

People of all ages had fun pedalling to power the blender of fruit to make delicious smoothies.

There was also a chance for people have-a -go at learning to fingerspell their names and trying some simple British Sign Language words and phrases with Library Supervisor, Sue Lee.

Toddlers and their families enjoyed joining in with French songs, games and a story with Lingotots.

The weather was good on Friday for Heather Sansom, Redvers Ramble guide, to take people on a three parks walk through Newcombes Meadow, People’s Park and St Lawrence Green.

Unfortunately Saturday’s Redvers Ramble was cancelled due to the inclement weather.

Talented photographer Paul McLoughlin was on hand for camera know-how and author and illustrator Amy Winfield held a writing workshop.

Adults and children enjoyed learning about and trying the different techniques used in claywork with Paul Vincent who gave workshops on both days.

Caroline from the Friday Craft Inn group held at Wetherspoons ran a Learn to Knit session and lots of children had fun making pompoms.

Sue Lee said: "Thank you to everyone who shared their knowledge and skills, volunteered to help out or took part in Crediton Library’s Fun Palace.

"You all contributed to making a really fun, enjoyable and interesting event."
