FIREARMS officers from Devon and Cornwall Police, the force helicopter, response officers, police negotiators and a dog unit, as well as an ambulance, attended an incident in Copplestone just before 11pm on Tuesday, July 5.

A man was reported to be with a firearm and officers talked to the man while the force helicopter provided lighting.

Supt Jacqui Hawley praised the helicopter crew and police colleagues on “Twitter” and said: “Great work by @NPAS_Exeter @DC_Police Firearms Officers Isolated incident resolved safely Fantastic downlink to FIM.”

A 56-years-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm.

On Wednesday he was still detained in police custody for questioning.
