FIRE crews from Chulmleigh and South Molton continue to be in attendance this afternoon (Tuesday, August 25) at the scene of a serious barn fire off the road from Bourne Cross to Coles Corner, Bridge Reeve near Chulmleigh.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to a report of a barn on fire at 7.33am and sent appliances from Chulmleigh and South Molton as well as a water bowser from Barnstaple and the incident support unit from Bovey Tracey.

On arrival the fire crews found the barn, which contained 100 tonnes of straw, hay and vehicles, was well alight.

Crews then got to work to put out the blaze, but were still in attendance at 2.15pm this afternoon.

This was due to the unstable structure of the building, crews carrying out a watching brief to ensure the fire does not spread.
