THIS being the pantomime season (oh yes it is!), Cheriton Fitzpaine Drama Club presented “Cinderella”, written by David Pink, last weekend.

David and his sidekick, Andrew Norton were once again the hapless comic duo, and did a marvellous job of linking the scenes together, even spinning out the raffle when the cast weren’t quite ready for the Grand Finale.

Richard Chapple made his adult debut as “Buttons”, and bobbed back and forth with his “Hiya Kids”.

The object of his unrequited love, Cinderella, was beautifully played by Neve Hall, who although she has only just started at QE, was very poised and had perfectly clear diction.

Another comic couple were Orson and Cart, played by Julia Metcalf and Clair Cavil, who were great fun, and also had the distinction of knowing their words off by heart.

The Bellamy family were well-represented, with Hugh as the Valet, Roger as the Baron Ugly, and Robert helping backstage.

Holly Metcalf as a cat and Paul Spear as a 7ft Gorilla had a wonderfully slick scene as they hoodwinked the Villagers.

The Good Fairy, Joan Jenner, stepping in at the last minute, looked very attractive, and was accompanied by two apprentices, Lily Cavill and Thora Cliffe-Duffield.

The costumes looked very professional and were assembled by Deniece and Holly Kingdon and Christina Cross.

This being the first night, Prompter Lesley Rogers had to be on her toes, but will probably be able to relax by the last production.

Production and Direction were by Geoff Burchmore, David Pink and Ralph Bellamy, but many, many people were involved in making the pantomime a success. Thank you Drama Club!

There are two more performances to come this weekend (Friday, February 1 and Saturday, February 2), in the parish hall at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £5 adults/£3 U12’s, and available from the village Community Shop or The Green House, Crediton, or email: [email protected] .
