THE Friends of Crediton Church (Holy Cross) was able to hold its Festival Evensong on September 6 - the first such service since the lockdown.

The service was confirmed at very short notice and the Friends was not able to send out the usual invitations, with numbers strictly limited, but it was a most enjoyable evening with some recorded and some live music.

An inspiring address was given by the Very Reverend Graham Smith, former Dean of Norwich Cathedral, who lives in retirement in North Devon. Under current restrictions The Friends usual social gathering afterwards was not permitted.

Holy Cross has been inherited by the whole town and included among the Friends are well wishers of every denomination and of none.
