WITHERIDGE St John’s Fayre will take place during the weekend of June 22 to 24, when the theme will be “Farming in Devon”.
This year everyone is invited to dress up to co-incide with the theme.
Tractor owners or drivers are invited to take their tractors along for the parade, and this includes both old or new tractors.
The fun begins with a tea dance on the Friday afternoon in the Parish Hall from 2pm until 4pm.
It was a great success last year and the committee hope it will be another success and encourage everyone to put on their dance shoes and enjoy ballroom dancing and a delicious Devon tea.
On Saturday, June 23, Witheridge Parish Hall will be lined with food stalls, craft stalls, delicious home-made goodies and plenty of entertainment.
The committee says there are still a few stall places available, if anyone would like to exhibit.
The Grand Parade makes its way through the village at 11.15am, and everyone is asked to make sure they are there in good time.
Crediton Town Band will lead the way followed by majorettes, Shire horses, hounds, tractors and so much more.
The fair will be declared open by Richard Howe, former BBC Radio Devon Farming Correspondent, and local primary school children, dressed for farming, will entertain.
There will be plenty of activities for children with Punch and Judy and Paul Zee Entertainment, maypole dancing, children’s races, children’s colouring competition and plenty of outdoor entertainment and activities.
The very popular Dog Show, run expertly by Liz Morris, welcomes dogs of all shapes and sizes for a fun competition. There will be plenty of prizes to be had. The competitions start at 12 noon on Witheridge tennis court.
The Bake-Off Competition is always popular and everyone is reminded to take all entries to the Parish Hall by 10am on Saturday. Anita and Caroline from La Petite Bouchee will be the judges.
Sticking to this year’s theme is The Farming Quiz, with Tiverton Museum in attendance. The photographic exhibition is “Farming Past and Present”, and local photographs are being sought to borrow for the display.
The funfair will return from the Thursday to the Sunday and will be located on the Sports Field car park.
There will be lots of competitions, games and activities at the Parish Hall fields, one of which is an egg throwing competition.
On Saturday evening, and free for all, there will be music and dancing to the Mangled Worzels in the marquee by the Parish Hall. The bar will be run by Witheridge Sports Club.
The Service, to celebrate St John’s Day, will be held in the village square on the Sunday morning.
