THIS year's Crediton Festival sees a host of amazing musical events planned and fans of classical, folk, jazz, rock and choral music will be treated to a musical box of delights to suit all tastes.

Events kicked off last weekend with The Food Festival which saw music from the Moon Jazz Club on the Saturday evening, followed by the Big Sunday Lunch the next day where acts included David Treadaway, Jess Laver, The Wee Free Men, Whittall and Green, Treehouse and Stuart Toms and Alistair Toms, all ideal accompaniment to a long picnic lunch in the Town Square.

Moon Jazz is promoting a special Festival gig at Buccaneers Bar, with Marcus Vergette on Wednesday, July 1.

QE Expressive Arts Department will present an evening of Music, Drama and Dance tomorrow, Saturday, June 20, featuring the wonderful QE Jazz Band.

There is more music for a young audience on Saturday, July 4 when Crediton Youth Collective present an Alice in Wonderland-themed gig at the Moose Hall, Bowden Hill at 7pm.

Classical audiences can see the highly-regarded Crediton Festival Chorus, led by Tina Guthrie, perform Mozart's Requiem and Handel's Coronation Anthems on Saturday, July 4. More choral singing is in evidence on Thursday, July 9 when Alison Whittall co-ordinates Crediton Sings! at the Congregational Church, in which nine choirs join forces to perform individually and collectively in a riot of celebratory voices.

Crediton Arts Centre's Music Market returns, thanks to generous support from Crediton Town Council and Devon County Council, and will be bigger and better than ever.

Sunday, June 21sees the ever-popular Community Music Box in the Bandstand at Newcombe's Meadow. A wide range of community music groups will perform between 12 noon and 5pm, including The New Choir, Crediton Congregational Church, The Woodmen, Hatherleigh Ukulele Bashers, the "Operation Belinda" chorus, Crediton Town Band, Casbah and CODS.

In addition, on the same day, CODS will be running a workshop from 2-4pm in the Arts Centre, teaching those taking part songs which will be performed in the Bandstand later during the concert. All are welcome.

That same evening sees local experimental folk duo Bold Set of Ruffians in a journey through Old England in song entitled The Snow, The Wind, To Sing at Crediton Arts Centre.

The music will be accompanied by live projections from video artist Mark Wilson, and support is from local singer Linda Long.

The centrepiece of Music Market is The Big Gig in the Town Square on Friday, July 3, from 7.30pm.

This will feature internationally acclaimed acoustic blues supremo Matt Woosey.

Matt has been praised by the likes of Paul Jones and Tom Robinson on BBC Radio 2 for his fantastic recordings and performances all over the world.

Support will be provided by the sumptuous close harmonies of Dartmoor residents The Crow Puppets, and exciting local swing band The Moonshine Serenaders.

Local acts Etchechuria, The Woodmen, The Saga Louts, John Kerry, Jess Laver and The Wee Free Men will be entertaining the crowds at "A Pawfect Day in the Park", Crediton's own dog show at Newcombe's Meadow on Sunday, July 5.

The music is being promoted by Crediton Arts Centre's East Street Acoustic club.

The final day of the Festival, Saturday, July 11, sees the return of the wonderful Busk It!, with 25 talented and varied acts playing in 18 venues up and down the High Street and Town Square during the morning.

Look out for boogie in the barber's, waltzing in the wine shop and calypso in the Co-op!

The festival ends that evening with a Finale Event, in the Town Square, featuring many acts from throughout the festival, topped off by local funksters Electric Spank.

Something for everyone? For sure! Many events are free; tickets available for other events can be purchased from the Festival Box Office at Olivia James Design, 27 High Street.
