DESPITE the somewhat challenging weather this summer, parishioners and Gardening Club members of Morchard Bishop managed to produce a fantastic display of vegetables, fruit and flowers for their 37th Flower and Produce Show which was held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday, September 3.
Show Secretary, Richard Jackson was delighted with the number of entries which, at 360, was 90 more than last year.
Trophies were presented to the award winners by the chairman of Morchard Bishop Gardening Club, Erwin Moore.
Mr Moore said that the judges had commented on the high standard of exhibits and he was pleased there were so many new exhibitors. He added that he was also pleased there was an increase in the number of exhibits in the children’s classes.
Winners were: Morchard Cup for most points by Morchard Bishop parishioner or Gardening Club member in the vegetable section – Veronica Hammett.
Open Class Cup for vegetables and fruit with most points in the vegetable section – Richard Jackson. Harold Webber Cup for Six Best runner beans – Richard Jackson. S. Roberts Cup – Best Exhibit in the vegetable section – Val Miles.
Morchard Bishop Allotment Challenge with Allotment owner with best display of produce - Jane Staniford. Watcombe Bowl – Best exhibit by a Gardening Club member in the flower section - Pat Wilding. Bowden Cup – Parishioner or Gardening Club member gaining most points in the flower section – Sheila Mather.
Oldborough Cup – Best mixed variety of garden flowers – Sheila Mather. Open Class Cup –Dahlias most points in the Dahlia section – Ivan Huxtable.
Members only – awarded to the Gardening Club member for best pot plant grown from the pot plants provided - 1 Richard Jackson, 2 Lyn Grimshaw.
Silver Anniversary Vase – most points in the flower arranging section – Kathy Allder. Chillingford Cup – most points in the household and craft sections – Pat Wilding. Wheeley Memorial Challenge Cup for most points in the Show - Pat Wilding.
Aish Cup - for children seven years and under - George Saunders. Aish Shield – Junior with most points - eight to 14 years - Oscar Denno.
Village Competition – planted wheelbarrow – John Warren, Arcadia. Village Competition - Scarecrow - Aidan and Val, Cornerways, Frost.
Certificate awarded by Morchard Bishop Gardening Club to an exhibitor for the excellence of their exhibit – Val Miles with impressive parsnips.
