THIS year’s St Lawrence Fair will take place on Saturday, August 10 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm in St Lawrence Chapel and grounds in Threshers, Crediton.

There will be various stalls, including bric-a-brac, cakes, books and games.

Teas will also be available, with funds raised from the event going to chapel funds and the charity, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) (Doctors Without Borders).

MSF is a leading independent humanitarian organisation for emergency medical aid. In more than 75 countries worldwide it provides relief to the victims of war, natural disasters and epidemics, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.

MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.

The event is being organised by the Friends of St Lawrence Chapel.

On Sunday, August 11, a special Patronal Evensong will be held at the chapel, beginning at 6pm, to which all are welcome.

The relatively recently-restored chapel was once an anchorite’s cell, part of Crediton’s medieval hospital, later three cottages and most recently a school chapel.

It was built in Early English style in around 1200 AD. It was used as a hospital – to provide hospitality to travellers and as a refuge for the sick and incapacitated – from the late 13th century to the early 16th century.
