WORK began this week on the first phase of a £600,000 road improvement scheme on the outskirts of Crediton – but motorists have been warned to expect delays.

The four-month long project will create a new roundabout on the A377 at Exeter Road which will give access to a new housing development, pub/restaurant, employment land and a Tesco supermarket and petrol station.

The work will mean that, at times, there will be traffic lights and manual traffic management on the road between Crediton and Newton St Cyres.

A new roundabout will be built to the east of Wellparks Farm and will include a nearby pedestrian and cycle entrance to the new development from Exeter Road.

The project will also provide the option for a future link road to the Lord's Meadow Industrial Estate, which Tesco says has been welcomed by many as a way of reducing traffic pollution and noise in the centre of Crediton.
