TWELVE Year 6 pupils of Exeter Junior School are currently taking part in a production of Puccini’s opera Tosca which is being performed by English Touring Opera at the Northcott Theatre this week.

The English Touring Opera is touring the UK with the production and the Exeter pupils are taking the role of the choir of the church of Sant’Andrea della Valle in Rome, where the story is set.

They have so far taken part in one performance this week and will be singing in two further shows today, Friday, May 26 and tomorrow, Saturday, May 27.

Under the guidance of Music teacher Mrs Tina Guthrie, who lives in Crediton, they have worked extremely hard over the last few weeks to learn the Italian words and the music.

As part of ETO’s mission to engage with local communities, 20 groups of children from around the country are joining ETO’s professional production as the choristers.

In each location around the country, 12 children, aged eight to 12, will appear on stage and in costume in this production.
