AS part of Sandford Celebrations to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday, Exeter Cathedral Choir travelled to St Swithun’s Church in Sandford on Sunday, May 22, to sing Choral Evensong, conducted by Preb Nigel Guthrie.

Music sung at the Queen’s Coronation in 1953 was used, including the anthem “Zadok the Priest”.

The choir was directed by Stephen Tanner and Timothy Noon from Exeter Cathedral was the organist.

Invited guests included Cllr John Daw, chairman of Mid Devon District Council and his wife, Marilyn; the Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch and his wife, the Mayoress, Mrs Natalia Letch; Devon County Councillor (Sandford and Newton St Cyres) Mrs Margaret Squires and Mid Devon District Councillor Mrs Judi Binks (Sandford and Creedy).

Representatives from surrounding parish councils and churches also attended.

At the end of the service the choir was thanked by Shuana Waller, chairman, Sandford Parish Council and each Chorister was presented with a special commemorative Sandford Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebrations ruler.
