THE 38th Annual Exeter and District Primestock Show saw a smaller but excellent quality entry of cattle forward at Exeter Livestock Centre.

The Overall Championship was awarded to Lin and Paul Calcraft of Honiton with their outstanding handyweight Limousin x Heifer “Whodaresgins” who has been successfully shown throughout the summer shows.

She weighed in at 584kgs and was sold at 400p per kilo (£2,333.08) by Kivells Auctioneers to Darts Farm Butchers of Topsham.

The reserve Champion, another cracking Limousin x Heifer “Black Beauty”, came from Simon David of Minehead.

This heifer weighed 656kgs and sold at 325p per kilo (£2,128.72) also to Darts Farm Butchers.

Steve and Rachel Stamp travelled down to Exeter from Highbridge with a strong team and their first prize steer “Beau”, described by the judge as “solid as a rock all the way through” weighed in at 658kgs and sold at 260p per kilo (£1,707.51) to Robert Trevarthen Butchers of Cornwall.

Mr Trevarthen purchased two more similar weight steers at 240p (£1,575.91) for Matt and Vicky Smith of Thelbridge and 240p (£1,571.12) for Lin and Paul Calcraft.

Other Heifers sold at 270p (£1,611.61) for Lin and Paul Calcraft and Hannah Reason of Highbridge saw her 596kgs third prize Limousin x Heifer make 240p per kilo (£1,427.42) to Darts Farm Butchers.

Archie Stamp and Percy Clatworthy picked up the much-deserved Best Young Stockman joint Award of the show and went on to sell their second prize 644kgs heifer at 235p per kilo (£1,510.18).

Kivells Auctioneers sent congratulations to all exhibitors on an excellent Show of quality cattle.

Lin and Paul Calcraft also took the top sheep competition title.

Awards were presented by the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Cllr Peter Holland.

Exeter and District Primestock Association president Andrew Down said that it would be his last year as president and he was thanked by chairman, John Quick.

Show secretary is Katie Rice and chief cattle steward was Nigel Jenkinson with Mary Curtis the chief sheep steward.

Judges were Prime Cattle, Mrs K Lanfear, Prime Sheep, Mrs A Pedrick and Mr A Cleave was the cow judge.
