BACK by popular demand, Exeter Friends of Hospiscare and The Friends of Stockleigh Pomeroy Church invite you to enjoy Raddon Hills Walk.
Enjoy the panoramic views on a five-mile walk on the Raddon Hills between Thoverton and Shobrooke on public and private footpaths.
It will take place on Saturday, October 18.
Meet at Stockleigh Pomeroy Village Hall from 2pm to register and the walk starts at 2.30pm. There will be plenty of parking.
The entry fee is £5 per adult (cash only), children under 14 and accompanied by a responsible adult are free.
Dogs on leads will be welcome.
There will be teas and delicious cakes in the village hall after the event.
The Grade I Listed church of St Mary the Virgin, (C11 origin) will be open for viewing.
It is noted for its early pew ends, many of which are C16, with some Victorian copies (referenced in Todd Gray in his book “Devon’s Ancient Bench Ends”).

The list of Rectors dates back to 1214. The Arcade piers are of special interest because they have “symmetrical motifs and little figures in the new Renaissance fashion”.
It has a C17 polygonal oak pulpit and C17 and C18 ledger stones.
There is some Norman fabric within the chancel, which was rebuilt in 1841, although Pevsner and Historic England appear to disagree regarding the heritage of the east lancet windows.
The former states that they are “no doubt from the building consecrated in 1261” but the latter states that they are C19.
The church, which sits at the western end of the village, was extended circa 1453 and restored between 1861 and 1863 by William White FSA (1825-1900), who rebuilt the south side and porch, and added an arch-braced roof.
Funds raised will go to the church and Hospiscare.
