THORNE’S Farm Shop will be hosting a talk by Glyn Dewis on Tuesday, March 8, at 7pm with an evening of conversation and stories about his personnel project, meeting and photographing surviving veterans from World War Two.

Glyn told the Courier: “The 39-45 Portraits Project is a self-funded project that I started back in early 2019 with the sole purpose of providing World War Two veterans with a classic, timeless portrait, free-of-charge, that they could be presented with and keep, and that could go on to remain in the family for generations to come.

“It was started as my way of saying ‘Thank you’ for the sacrifices and bravery during that period in our history.

“The project very quickly grew as the word spread and I toured the UK photographing and interviewing World War Two veterans (men and women) who served in the Army, Navy and RAF.”

Glyn’s first exhibition was held for three months at the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock and the opening day attracted media from the newspapers and national news TV channels with the “BBC” in attendance.

The pandemic put a temporary stop on the project for safety reasons but Glyn has now been able to continue and has recently photographed 100-year-old Gordon Short, a World War Two Burma Star Veteran, who lives in Burrington, Devon.

The Mission Statement for the project is: “To Honour, To Remember and To Educate.”

Do you know of a veteran who would like to be photographed and receive a portrait?

This would be at no cost to them, but as Glyn’s way of saying thank you to them.

Tickets for the evening, priced at £5 (to include refreshments), are available from Thorne’s Farm Shop with proceeds going to The Veterans Charity, a North Devon based Charity that supports veterans of all ages in immediate need, and of which Glyn is an Ambassador.

Glyn says the evening is a “thank you” to our Veterans.
