led the way in tetrathlon
THE last tetrathlon to be held this year in the West Country, was hosted by
Eggesford Hunt Pony Club on October 3 and 4.
The Saturday's shooting/running and swimming were held at Okehampton College and Leisure Centre and the Sunday's riding at Southcott, Winkleigh cross country course, courtesy of Roger and Rosemary Bland.
A total of 132 competitors ranging from eight to 18, from Somerset, Devon and Cornwall competed the competition.
Eggesford members have had a great season in tetrathlon at local area and two members from the Winkleigh area, Beccy Chapman and Chris Pyle, represented the South West at the National Championships held at Hartpury in August. TOn home ground, they managed to win four of the classes and came second in another!
Ollie Dallyn, from Winkleigh, in his last year of Mini s (11 years and under), led the field from start to finish in the boys section.
Junior Girls (12 to 14 years) was won by Anju Gaston, from Colebrooke, who is also making her mark on the Modern Pentathlon circuit.
Toby Thurgood, from Lapford, son of the Eggesford Pony Club's tetrathlon organiser, had good reason to be proud when he took the Junior Boy's Trophy before he moves up to Intermediate level next year.
Izzie Potts, from Coldridge, had her best results yet but was narrowly beaten in the Intermediate Girls (15 years and over) by Sophie Jarvis from the South Devon Moorland branch.
Chris Pyle, from Exbourne, held onto his narrow lead by going clear cross country to take the top spot in the Intermediate Boy's.
Other winners were Billy Greene, (Tiverton) in the mixed Mini Assisted; Gretta Guccione, (Banwell) and Ollie Dinnis, (East Cornwall) in the Mixed Mini; Alice Rogers, (East Cornwall), in the Novice Junior and Tessa Down, (Cotley) in the Mini Girls event.
